We are all stories. This is mine.
About me
My name is Barry Gibb, PhD (he/him), and I’m a person-centred counsellor based in Wolverhampton, West Midlands. I blend compassionate, client-focused therapy with a creative, narrative-driven approach shaped by my background in neuroscience and filmmaking.
Born in Dundee and raised in a working-class home, I quickly learned the value of work, commitment and care for others. I went on to study molecular biology at Dundee University and completed a PhD in neuroscience at King’s College London, exploring neurological conditions such as motor neurone disease and Parkinson’s. After a decade in research, I followed a long-standing creative drive into filmmaking, specialising in stories about health, mental illness, and the human experience.
Today, I draw on these combined experiences to help clients explore and transform their personal stories into opportunities for growth and resilience. My practice is informed by a deep passion for people, science, the arts, and reflective, evidence-informed work inspired by Carl Rogers. I aim to offer a therapeutic relationship that is both deeply empathetic and intellectually grounded.
I run a private counselling practice, working with clients online and face-to-face, and also volunteer with Serenity Counselling in Wolverhampton.
