Meet your therapist

I’m a person-centred counsellor who blends compassionate, client-focused therapy with a unique creative and narrative-driven approach. Drawing on my PhD in neuroscience and more than a decade of experience as a documentary filmmaker specialising in health and mental illness, I work with clients to explore and transform their own stories into opportunities for growth and resilience.

My practice is informed by a passion for arts-based methods and reflective, evidence-informed techniques, including numerous insights from Carl Rogers’ theories, allowing me to gently work with clients through their self-discoveries in a way that is both deeply empathetic and intellectually grounded.

My Journey

First trained as a molecular biologist and neuroscientist, my initial career involved exploring the causes and potential treatments for a range of neurological conditions, such as motor neurone disease.

After a decade of research, I followed a creative calling to become a filmmaker, a fantastic time during which I discovered a deep passion for the creative act, storytelling and interviewing people at the edge of life. Over the years, I picked up a few awards but, more importantly, developed a reputation for compassionate listening and an interview technique that brought out the warmth in people – something I hope I bring to my work with clients. You can see some of my films here.

During this time, I also wrote an award-winning book, The Rough Guide to the Brain, published by Penguin and a wonderful lay introduction to our most precious and complex organ.

In 2024 I embarked on a new adventure to become a psychotherapist and it’s the best decision I could have made. Rekindling a lifelong passion for psychology, it has allowed me to bring all of my experience, knowledge and love of humankind together to do what I can to help others, no matter what is troubling them.

Currently, I’m working as a counsellor with the incredible team at Serenity Counselling, Wolverhampton.
